About this event
Sudarshan is an attempt to show what a day in Nathdwara feels like and what a year in Mewar looks like, at once. Drawing from the meticulous seva of Shrinathji, the emergence of Pichwai as a form of expression in the Aravallis, and Aavaran’s deep practice of indigenous Dabu printing and natural indigo dyeing, the work brings together the devotional traditions of Nathdwara with the living artistic heritage of Mewar. Dabu printing is an important part of the cultural heritage of this region. Over time, however, the craft and the knowledge around it gradually began to fade. Its revival and renewed visibility are therefore not only about preserving a technique, but also about keeping alive the skills, knowledge and artistic traditions that are an integral part of Mewar’s identity. Through Sudarshan, these traditions come together in one continuous work, connecting devotion, landscape, craft and the passage of time.
