In this two-day workshop, we will enter the practice of Contact Improvisation through the gateways of embodiment and experiential research, exploring principles, observations, and tools from these two methods and fields of study (see elaboration below). We will refine our attunement, appreciation, and inspiration to and from our physicality, perception, presence, inner ecosystem, and our relationship with ourselves, others, the environment, space, and the gravitational field in which we live and dance.

About the methods:

The Axis Syllabus is an ongoing empirical research project into the human body in dynamic motion, investigating the interplay between our structures and the forces acting upon and passing through us as we move on planet Earth.

Through experiential anatomy and biomechanics, we explore possibilities for moving in a sustainable manner, recycling kinetic energy and using momentum, inertia, and gravitational forces to our advantage, while developing new coordinations and movement skills with ease and respect for our bodily ecosystem.

Body-Mind Centering® is an embodied approach to movement, the body, and consciousness, explored through experiential physiology, embryology, developmental movement, touch, dance and voice improvisation, communal study, and imagination. It offers tools for deepening our connection to the multilayered experience of the body and to the ever-unfolding dance happening within us, drawing inspiration from the abundance of rhythms, qualities, characteristics, and mysteries of the body.
